A Word About Massage Therapy Regulations

While 37 states regulate massage therapists and require them to be certified, Michigan does not. Some therapists pursue national registration through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, but it is not required here. Most important, certification aside, is how comfortable you feel with the therapist. So advises Les Sweeney, president of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, a Colorado-based professional association representing massage education, bodywork, somatics practitioners and estheticians.
